'Are you from Farrukhabad'?

farrukhabad

While writing the title, i am suddenly becoming tensed. I don’t know, if my blogs have got any readers as yet, but even for those few ones chances are less that they would be not knowing about this?

I was new to my institute, supposedly introvert and perhpaps good at heart. Like most of the Indian middle class families, have been taught to be good in studies, not to quarrel with anyone and even if someone pokes you, just neglect and all. In short, i was NOT, what i am now !

This incident “Are you from Farrukhabad?” has been sportingly played as a prank over me. The guys were just having a fun, it was simple like that, how can one be hurt, if you say to him that he belongs to his place. A delhite is a delhite and he is proud of that. But honestly speaking, i was hurt and felt hurted for quiet long time, it was not a played as simple joke, it was like to mock my place, my identity altogether and to give a chance to all in group to laugh at me :- ) (Shit man, i was so bloody crap, emotional fool that time!)

We four-five guys went to Delhi tour. I didn’t wish to be go but i was of the opinion that if i’ll go, might be i’ll be friends with the guys. You know guys, especially their poor jokes, they come to the institute with a new prank altogether & with such minute details, that sometimes even i feel like, was it really true?

The incident is like …. (from one of the fellow companions words!)

“We all were sitting together at railway station. Pawan was doing some crap as-usual, seems like all farrukhabadis do this way. When he did this thing, i asked him …. “Are you from Farrukhabad?” He then did something different, then someone else asks him, “Are you from Farrukhabad?” and then we were sitting there, Pawan continue doing the things, then suddenly an English man comes and asks Pawan, “Are you from Farrukhabad?” ”

It was suddenly so popular in the institute that some English guy has mocked Pawan and i don’t know, how many guys believed that , but it was communicated as serious true incident. I got this byline in my farewell, by junior batch.

I am typing these words sitting in States. My manager is from Baraeilly, a town adjacent to Farrukhabad,my hometown (everyone reading might have guessed so !). It was my first day in office, i was talking to my manager and client IT manager. Client IT manager was a stout American,a bit familiar with Indian geography. He asked me, “Which part of India, you belong to?”. I told , “I belong to North India, hail from Uttar Pradesh”. My manager suddenly got excited and asked me, “From where in UP? I belong to Baraeilly.” I was also happy to see someone so close and told that “I belong to Farrukhabad.” The American Manager said, “So, you are from Farrukhabad!”.
